THE ALLIANCE OF WOMEN FILM JOURNALISTS ANNOUNCES PRESENTATION OF EDA AWARDS AT WHISTLER FILM FESTIVAL 2013

New York – The Alliance of Women Film Journalists Inc. (AWFJ) is pleased to announce the presentation of juried AWFJ EDA Awards at this year’s Whistler Film Festival, held from December 4 to 8, 2013 in Whistler, British Columbia.

AWFJ, a nonprofit organization of leading female film journalists with active members in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, recognizes outstanding achievements by women filmmakers by presenting its prestigious EDA Awards at year’s end and at select film festivals.

At Whistler Film Festival 2013, EDA Awards will be presented for Best Female-Directed Narrative Feature and for Best Female-Directed Documentary. Eligible female-directed films are being screened as part of the festival’s regular program, and are being nominated for EDA Awards consideration by Whistler Film Festival’s administration and programmers. Jury panels for both EDA Awards categories will be drawn from the AWFJ membership, with five jurors assigned to each panel. Chairperson for the narrative feature panel is Vancouver-based Katherine Brodsky, and chairing the documentaries panel is New York-based Jennifer Merin. The names of jury members will be announced at a later date.

“We feel that Whistler Film Festival’s excellent programming, loyal following and filmmaker friendly atmosphere make it the ideal selection for AWFJ’s our first Canadian partner in the presentation of EDA Awards for outstanding female-films shown in the film festival milieu,” said Jennifer Merin, AWFJ’s president.

The EDA Awards will be presented to winners at the Whistler Film Festival awards ceremony on December 8 2013.
