Welcome to The Female Gaze, an AWFJ blog dedicated to covering the issues faced by women working in the film industry regarding gender disparity in job opportunities and in representation on the job.
This blog emerged from IDFA’s 2014 The Female Gaze film program and panel discussions, which underscored the need to grapple with gender discrimination in all aspects of the documentary film industry. We widen that focus to include the realm of narrative filmmaking, as well.
The Female Gaze blog is a platform information and opinions regarding the ongoing struggle for film industry women to attain equal opportunity and recognition for their work. Filmmakers, producers, cinematographers, editors, distributors, programmers, commissioning editors, curators, critics and industry commentators are welcome to contribute to and further the movement by sharing information, opinions and suggested strategies here.
The Female Gaze blog is administered by the Alliance of Women Film Journalists @ www.awfj.org, but all — women and men — are welcome to contribute. To do so, please send submissions to FemaleGazeForum@gmail.com.
We have also established a The Female Gaze Forum group on Facebook. We invite you to like it, and to contribute and comment regularly.
