Crimson Peak posterToo many horror films are formulaic with young women running up the stairs while babysitting or in a sorority house only to be murdered wearing barely any clothes. I’m not saying I won’t happily watch a film with splatter horror tropes, but when the opportunity to see something different arises, I gladly  jump at the chance. CRIMSON PEAK is director Guillermo del Toro‘s latest masterpiece. With his fascination with gothic horror, Crimson Peak appears to be right up his alley, alongside his other iconic films Pan’s Labyrinth and The Devil’s Backbone. While del Toro has also delved into the sci-fi and comic book world with the Hellboy films (soon to be a trilogy) and Blade II, his eye for fantasy and horror is top notch. There can be no denying the man is a genius. Not only does he direct a myriad of films but writes them as well. Some people don’t know he had a hand in writing two of The Hobbit films.

CrimsonPeak Tom HiddlestonCrimson Peak stars Tom  Hiddleston, Charlie Hunman, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Burn Gorman, and for you Supernatural fans out there, Jim Beaver. The plot is as follows: Young author Edith Cushing discovers that her charming new husband is not who he appears to be. But we can clearly see that based upon the latest trailer, that this is most definitely a ghost story. Will this script shatter barriers in the horror world? I surely hope so. The look alone is enough to get me into a theater. With grand sets, magnificent costumes, and a dream cast, Crimson Peak is one of my most anticipated films of 2015.
