AWFJ REAL REEL WOMEN LIST – Film Titles By Decade

Some REAL REEL WOMEN have been celebrated and memorialized in numerous films, as perennial favorites. The highly dramatic story of Joan of Arc has been told successfully in eight films that illuminated the silver screen periodically from 1902 to 2018. It’s interesting to compare the various versions to see how they reflect life at the time of their release.

Director Jen McGowan’s Rust Creek is an escape thriller that centers on college student Sawyer Scott (Hermione Corfield) who gets lost in the back roads of Kentucky only to be attacked and hunted deep into the forest by two local men. Rust Creek reframes the genre.

The invaluable film distributor Kino Lorber has assembled a truly eye-opening collection of films from the silent era—all made by women. Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers is a DVD/Blu-ray box set that presents more than 50 silent feature and short films digitally mastered from 2k and 4K restorations from a variety of sources. The six disc set is divided by subject matter. Disc one is entirely devoted to the works of perhaps the most important woman filmmaker ever, Alice Guy-Blaché.
