European women helmers short listed for gold!
Of the nine-film short list for Oscar’s Best Foreign Film golden statuette, three are directed by women, according to Movie City News. They are, in alphabetical order by country, Canada’s Deepha Mehta for “Water,” Denmark’s Suzanne Bier for “After the Wedding,” and France’s Daniele Thompson for “Avenue Montaigne.”
Mehta’s “Water” was awarded AWFJ’s 2006 EDA Award for “Best Persistence” in filmmaking.
