AWFJ Women On Film – Dr. Martha Lauzen’s “The Celluloid Ceiling II” – 2009 – Jennifer Merin previews
Dr. Martha Lauzen’s latest study, “The Celluloid Ceiling II,” augments her annual look at women’s behind-the-scenes representation in Hollywood filmmaking by including women working in production management, production design and sound design, as well those employed as key grips and gaffers. The study finds that:
- In 2008, women comprised 20% of all production designers working on the top 250 domestic grossing films.
- Women accounted for 5% of sound designers and 5% of supervising sound editors on the films considered.
- Last year, 25% of production managers and 44% of production supervisors were female.
AWFJ Women On Film will publish the entire study when it is released on Tuesday, May 12, 2009.
