AWFJ Women On Film – Kathryn Bigelow Wins DGA’s Best Director
The Alliance of Women Film Journalists congratulate Kathryn Bigelow for winning the 2010 Directors Guild of America award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for The Hurt Locker.Bigelow is the first woman ever to win the DGA’s top honor. And, she’s a strong contender to win Best Director at the Academy Awards this year. She would be the first women to win the Best Director Oscar, as well.
This year, in both the DGA and Oscars races, the best director award has been seen as a contest between Bigelow and James Cameron, director of Avatar, and Bigelow’s ex-husband.
Earlier in this awards season, Bigelow and The Hurt Locker won six AWFJ 2009 EDA Awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Ensemble Acting, Best Woman Director, Women’s Image Award and Outstanding Achievement By A Woman In The Film Industry.
Here’s to more for and from Katheryn Bigelow.
