AWFJ Movie of the Week, May 4-10: HOT PURSUIT

0 Flares 0 Flares ×

Opening May 8, the AWFJ Movie of the Week is Hot Pursuit, which teams Reese Witherspoon (Wild, InherentVice) and Sofia Vergara (TV’s Modern Family, Wild Card) as a by-the-book career cop and drug boss widow being pursued across Texas by a menagerie of crooked cops and gun wielding criminals, all out to get their hands on some cash. Read on…

Written by prolific TV scribes David Feeney (2 Broke Girls and NewGirl) and John Quaintance (Ben and Kate, Undateable), the film is helmed by dancer-turned-choreographer-turned director Anne Fletcher, who has previously brought us comedies Step Up, 27 Dresses and The Proposal, and is soon to take the big-budget reigns of Enchanted 2. She’s well placed to make the most of the considerable talents of her two leading ladies, both of whom have previously proved their knack for comedy. The promise of some belly laughs aside, and ignoring the painfully reductive pun of its title, it’s refreshing to see such a road movie being fronted by two female protagonists, particularly when they are played by two such watchable actresses as these.

AWFJ Movie of the Week Panelists Comments:

Anne Brodie: Call me crazy but its time for some laughs! I am excited to see Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon in Hot Pursuit. Two terrific comic actors, together and living large.

Nell Minow: Hot Pursuit. It’s great to see a road movie starring two brilliantly talented actresses.
