WEEK IN WOMEN: AFI Fest Opens and Closes with Femme-helmed, Femme-focused Films – Brandy McDonnell reports

The 2018 AFI Film Fest, taking place in the heart of Hollywood from November 8 to 15, will open and close with narrative features about powerful, influential women, and both biopics are helmed by female filmmakers.

Premiering on Nov. 8 at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre, the opening night film for the 32nd edition of AFI Fest will be On the Basis of Sex, director Mimi Leder’s (Deep Impact) inspiring biopic that tells the story of young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Felicity Jones) before she became a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

On Nov. 15, AFI Fest will close with the world premiere of another fact-based drama, Mary Queen of Scots, directed by Josie Rourke, and starring Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie. Read more on THE WEEK IN WOMEN
