WEEK IN WOMEN: Octavia Spencer honored as PGA ‘Visionary’ – Brandy McDonnell reports

The Producers Guild of America will honor Oscar-winning performer and producer Octavia Spencer with its Visionary Award, which is given to producers “who share inspiring, uplifting stories that add unique value to society and culture.”

The honor will be bestowed at the 31st annual PGA Awards Jan. 18 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.

“As both an actor and as a producer, Octavia has provided her keen vision to an array of poignant stories across drama, comedy and everything in between,” said PGA presidents Gail Berman and Lucy Fisher in a statement. “She understands how to harness the power of filmmaking to inspire audiences everywhere with stories that showcase undeniable human truths and emotion.” Continue reading on THE WEEK IN WOMEN.

Brandy McDonnell writes features and reviews movies, music, events and the arts for The Oklahoman, Oklahoma's statewide newspaper, and NewsOK.com, the state's largest news Web site. Raised on a farm near Lindsay, Okla., she started her journalism career in seventh grade, when she was elected reporter for her school's 4-H Club. She attended Oklahoma State University, where she worked for The Daily O'Collegian and earned her journalism degree with honors.
