Shirley is billed as the intimate portrayal of trailblazing political icon Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman to serve in the U.S. Congress and to run for U.S. president, and the cost of her accomplishments for Chisholm herself. Based on exclusive and extensive conversations with family, friends and those who knew her best, the film will tell the story of Chisholm’s boundary-breaking and historic 1972 presidential campaign.
