You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah: Just practice your prayers and write your speech already.

Adam Sandler has a new Netflix flick for the whole family that stars… his whole family. Sandler, though, is playing a supporting role as a dad who takes a backseat to his hard driving daughters, Stacy and Ronnie, as they try to navigate life…daughters who are played by Sandler’s real life daughters, Sunny and Sadie.

Adam is married in this movie to Idina Menzel, but his true life partner, Jackie Sandler, plays the mother of his youngest daughter’s best friend. If you can follow this you are ready to attend the celluloid soirée and be prepared to be impressed by the acting skills of the Sandlers.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is Are You There God, It’s Mean Girls. This female helmed film is directed by Sammi Cohen and written by Alison Peck and Fiona Rosenbloom. Let me tell you, these ladies have been to a Bat Mitzvah or two. You Are So Not Invited is a dead-on caricature of pre teens on the party “circuit”…Hebrew school, boys, clothes, event planning, music, the Greek Chorus of Bubbies, the guitar-toting cantor and an overly hip Rabbi played by SNL’s Sarah Sherman.

This easy to watch comedy follows Stacey’s road to becoming a mensch that’s pitted with potholes of jealousy that briefly block her path to the bimah. Sunny, as Stacey, becomes a woman in reel and real life. I’m sure Adam is kvelling.

If you are a MOT (Member of the Tribe), You Are So Not Invited is a must see, but even Goyum will crack a smile at how these parents negotiate the teen years with love and support without going meshugenah.
