The Alliance of Women Film Journalists is delighted and honored to welcome five outstanding female film journalists as new members, starting in January 2024. They are film critics, commentators and reporters who hail from across the U.S. Canada, and the United Kingdom, and they represent a wide range of media platforms, including popular and erudite publications, daily newspapers and other print journals, broadcast, podcast and online outlets. We invite you to follow them on AWFJ.org where you can enjoy reading their diverse opinions about films and movie industry trends.

Congrats to those who are joining us in 2024. AWFJ accepts very few new members each year. We received many applications during the course of 2023. Sincerest apologies to the many highly qualified female film journalists whose applications we could not accommodate for 2024. We hope you will keep in touch with us and we encourage you to apply for membership again in the future.

Here, in alphabetical order, are the 2024 new members of the Alliance of Women Film Journalists:
 

CLOTILDE CHINNICI

Clotilde‘s love for film began at a very young age with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first film she ever saw. Her passion for films truly sparked with Star Wars and Harry Potter. After graduating with a BA in Film, Clotilde started working in film production and entertainment journalism. Although most of her time is occupied by watching films, writing and talking about them to anyone who will listen, Clotilde enjoys reading and baking in her free time.
 
CORTLAND JACOBY

Cortland is a critic and writer based in the DC area. Her work can be seen on Punch Drunk Critics, Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Ranker, and Game Rant. While she writes a lot of reviews, she also loves to conduct interviews and attend film festivals. She is also a member of the Washington Area Film Critics Association.
 
 
 
BONNIE LAUFER

Bonnie is a 35-year broadcast Entertainment Reporter, Writer and Producer currently seen on CH Morning Live in Canada and on her YouTube channel. She’s on Sirius XM’s The Breakdown with Allison Dore where her interviews and reviews can be heard. She writes and interviews for Original-Cin.ca. She’s interviewed more than 20,000 celebs, including Scorsese, DiCaprio, Jolie, Streisand, Jackman, Clooney, Aniston, Pitt and Winfrey to highlight a few.
 
SARAH VINCENT

Sarah is a freelance film writer, who writes for Cambridge Day, In Between Drafts, and sarahgvincentviews.com, her blog. She is a regular contributor on WGBH News’ Morning Edition and made guest appearances on NECN/NBC 10. She is a Tomato-approved critic and a Boston Society of Film Critics member. She is originally from NYC and was introduced to repertory cinema while working at the Harvard Film Archives.

AMBER WILKINSON

Amber is an Edinburgh-based journalist with more than 20 years of experience. She is the co-founder and editorial director of Eye For Film, a website specialising in independent and world cinema. Her byline regularly appears in Screen International. Additional outlets have included The Times, Sydney Morning Herald and Filmmaker Magazine. She also appears as an independent film critic on BBC Radio Scotland.

Jennifer Merin

Jennifer Merin is the Film Critic for Womens eNews and contributes the CINEMA CITIZEN blog for and is managing editor for AWFJ.org, the online magazine of the Alliance of Women Film Journalists, of which she is President. She has served as a regular critic and film-related interviewer for The New York Press and About.com. She has written about entertainment for USA Today, The L.A. Times, US Magazine, Ms. Magazine, Endless Vacation Magazine, NY Daily News, New York Post, SoHo News and other publications. After receiving her MFA from Tisch School of the Arts (Grad Acting), Jennifer performed at the O'Neill Theater Center's Playwrights Conference, Long Wharf Theater, American Place Theatre and LaMamma, where she worked with renown Japanese director, Shuji Terayama. She subsequently joined Terayama's theater company in Tokyo, where she also acted in films. Her journalism career began when she was asked to write about Terayama for The Drama Review. She became a regular contributor to the Christian Science Monitor after writing an article about Marketta Kimbrell's Theater For The Forgotten, with which she was performing at the time. She was an O'Neill Theater Center National Critics' Institute Fellow, and then became the institute's Coordinator. While teaching at the Universities of Wisconsin and Rhode Island, she wrote "A Directory of Festivals of Theater, Dance and Folklore Around the World," published by the International Theater Institute. Denmark's Odin Teatret's director, Eugenio Barba, wrote his manifesto in the form of a letter to "Dear Jennifer Merin," which has been published around the world, in languages as diverse as Farsi and Romanian. Jennifer's culturally-oriented travel column began in the LA Times in 1984, then moved to The Associated Press, LA Times Syndicate, Tribune Media, Creators Syndicate and Arcamax Publishing. She's been news writer/editor for ABC Radio Networks, on-air reporter for NBC, CBS Radio and for Westwood One's America In the Morning. She is a member of the Critics Choice Association in the Film, Documentary and TV branches and a voting member of the Black Reel Awards.
