Acclaimed and Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rachel Morrison‘s directorial debut, the inspirational fact-based sports drama, The Fire Inside, is scheduled to open in theaters on Christmas.

The movie tells the the inspirational true story of Claressa Shields (played by Ryan Destiny), arguably the greatest female boxer of all time. A high school junior from Flint, Michigan, Claressa – aided by her tough-love coach, Jason Crutchfield (played by Oscar-nominated actor Brian Tyree Henry) – pushes past all limitations to become the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing.

But even at the pinnacle of her success, Claressa has to reckon with the fact that not all dreams are created equal, and her real fight for equality for women in sports has only just begun.

Amazon MGM Studios is releasing the biopic of Shields, who in 2016 became the first U.S. boxer, male or female, to win two Olympic gold medals, in theaters only on Dec. 25. Continue reading on THE WEEK IN WOMEN.
