Soleil Moon Frye documentary debuts on Paramount+ – Brandy McDonnell reports
Director Soleil Moon Frye’s highly anticipated two-part documentary The Carters: Hurts to Love You is premiering Tuesday, April 15 exclusively on Paramount+.
The Carters: Hurts to Love You takes a deeply personal look at the soaring success and heartbreaking struggles of a family propelled into the spotlight by the meteoric rise of the musical careers of two brothers: Nick Carter of the superstar boy band Backstreet Boys and the late pop sensation Aaron Carter, who died at age 34 on Nov. 5, 2022, when he accidentally drowned after taking drugs.
Produced by See It Now Studios and Candle True Stories, the documentary unravels the moving story of the Carter family, told by Angel Carter Conrad, the singers’ sister. The film features intimate conversations between the only surviving Carter siblings, Angel and Nick, who confront their complex childhood and the profound tragedies that marked their family.
Soleil Moon Frye, a former child performer who grew up in the public eye while starring on the 1984-1988 television series Punky Brewster,, previously directed the 2021 documentary Kid 90, based on her diaries, videotapes and audio recordings from her teenage years. Kid 90 is streaming on Hulu.
