WEEK IN WOMEN: Molly Smith Metzler returns to Netflix with SIRENS – Brandy McDonnell reports
Emmy-nominated writer and showrunner Molly Smith Metzler, the creator of Netflix’s acclaimed 2021 limited series Maid, has a new, highly anticipated five episode series on Netflix. It’s a dark femme-centric comedy series titled Sirens, and it premiered on May 22.
Metzler’s first project with the streaming service, Maid, was not only nominated for multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards but also spent 14 weeks on Netflix’s global Top 10 TV list and reached the Top 10 in 93 countries.
Metzler, whose writing credits also include Shameless and Orange Is the New Black, shared in a 2022 Writers Guild of America Award for Maid, and in February 2022, the streamer announced that she had signed a multi-year overall deal to write and produce new series and other projects at Netflix under her Quiet Coyote production banner.
Sirens is the first series from Metzler’s creative partnership with Netflix and is based on her play Elemeno Pea, which she wrote while she was at The Juilliard School. Elemeno Pea premiered at Actors Theatre of Louisville in Kentucky in March 2011.
Sirens, starring Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus, Drop), Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon)and Oscar winner Julianne Moore (Far From Heaven, Boogie Nights), is billed as “an incisive, sexy, and darkly funny exploration of women, power, and class.” Continue reading on THE WEEK IN WOMEN.
