Amy Berg’s IT’S NEVER OVER, JEFF BUCKLEY releases in Dolby Atmos – Brandy McDonnell reports
It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley, the latest documentary directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg, will be released Aug. 8 in U.S. theaters, where it will be available in Dolby Atmos. The film, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to rave reviews, covers the life of the rising young star with an otherworldly voice and boundary-pushing artistry, who left the 1990s music world reeling when he died suddenly, at age 30, after the release of his critically acclaimed debut album “Grace.”
With a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley continues Berg’s streak of acclaimed documentary filmmaking.
“I’ve spent practically my entire career trying to make this film, which takes a very intimate look at one of the greatest singers and songwriters of all time,” said Berg in a statement. “I’m so excited Magnolia and HBO have come onboard to share this film with the world and give old fans and new audiences a chance to experience Jeff from this unique vantage point. I couldn’t imagine a better team to roll this into the world!”
Berg’s first film, Deliver Us From Evil, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and a Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary in 2007. Berg went on to direct West of Memphis in collaboration with producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh. That film premiered to rave reviews at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, was nominated for a BAFTA and won the Writers Guild of America Documentary Screenplay Award. Sony Pictures Classics released the film in 2012.
Berg’s company, Disarming Films, has been writing and producing long-form documentary features and docuseries for broadcast for more than a decade.
