Cosima Spender’s music documentary Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe, which offers a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the life of one of the world’s greatest singers, bows in theaters worldwide Sept. 21 via Trafalgar Releasing.

Blending archival footage and interviews with candid, fly-on-the-wall moments, the film, which premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, traces the journey of a voice that has moved millions, from humble beginnings to sold-out shows around the world.

Granted unprecedented access into the celebrated singer’s life, Spender followed beloved Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli beyond the footlights to reveal an uncompromising artist and devoted family man with a fearless passion for living for her latest documentary. “Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe” allows Bocelli to tell his story in his own words for the first time.

The film weaves together heartfelt narratives from friends, family and close associates, offering an enchantingly intimate look into his life, and creating a truly inspirational film for his fans to come together and enjoy on the big screen.

Born in Siena, in Tuscany, in central Italy, Spender grew up between Italy and England. She studied documentary filmmaking at the UK National Film and Television School.

Spender previously directed the five-part 2020 docuseries SanPa, Sins of the Savior, as a Netflix Original, making it the first Italian documentary series. It portrays the beginnings of the biggest rehab commune in Europe, San Patrignano, and its charismatic but controversial leader, Vincenzo Muccioli.
