WEEK IN WOMEN: Sheryl J. Anderson’s SWEET MAGNOLIAS Season 5 on NETFLIX

Sweet Magnolias is heading to New York City for its highly anticipated Season 5, premiering June 11 n Netflix. Based on the popular book series by New York Times best-selling author Sherryl Woods, Sweet Magnolias follows lifelong best friends Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) and Helen (Heather Headley) as they juggle relationships, family and careers in the charming small town of Serenity, South Carolina. The fan-favorite “comfort drama” continuously ranks among Netflix’s Global Top 10 list in more than 60 countries.

Sheryl J. Anderson is the creator, showrunner and executive producer for the hit series. Anderson began her writing journey as an aspiring playwright at The College of William & Mary in Virginia. Upon moving to Los Angeles, she worked as a television studio executive, screenwriter and half-hour series writer on Parker Lewis Can’t Lose and Dave’s World.

She then shifted into writing and producing hourlong series, working on a wide range of shows, including Charmed, Flash Gordon and When Calls the Heart. She created Ties That Bind, UPtv’s first scripted series, and has sold pilots to Netflix, SyFy, NBC, Lifetime and Disney.  Along with her work on Sweet Magnolias and other TV projects, Anderson is a novelist and teaches and mentors through a variety of universities and organizations.
