the vivid vulgarity is so repetitive that it ceases to be shocking, the chaotic plot is predictable and Daniel Lopatin’s aggressive, pulse-pounding synthetic score is too damn loud! Since Adam Sandler has previously focused his psychotic energy on goofy, childish comedy, it’s perhaps remarkable how he’s morphed into this totally self-indulgent, utterly contemptable scumbag. But spending two hours in his irritating company is sheer agony.

What’s extraordinary about Sam Mendes’ epic W.W.I film is that it follows the harrowing journey of two young British infantryman in one seemingly continuous shot. On April 6, 1917, when phone lines have been cut on the Hindenberg Line in France, Lance Corporal Blake is summoned to deliver an important directive preventing a planned advance to the front because the Germans have set an ambush.

While the topic of whistleblowing is timely, this legal drama, inspired by true events, gets bogged down in dull procedural trivia. Back in 1998, Cincinnati corporate environmental defense attorney Robert Bilott was approached by a desperate West Virginia farmer, Wilbur Tennant who told him that toxic waste from DuPont was either causing disastrous birth defects and/or killing his cows.

You know the feeling when you have a very painful scab on your knee and you keep picking at it? That’s what writer/director Noah Baumbach has created in this bitter, corrosive tale about the dissolution of a marriage. Beginning as ‘cinema verite,’ recalling the 1960s French film movement which featured natural actions and authentic dialogue, it inexplicably then morphs into near-farce and melodic metaphors.

Smith, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez – which traces its antecedents to Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen” – it’s written by Jennifer Lee, who did the first installment, and co-directs with Chris Buck, once aging focusing on Anna and Elsa as self-reliant, resilient role-models for young girls.
