In our 16th annual awards season, AWFJ presented EDA Awards in 25 categories divided into three sections, the BEST OF AWARDS, FEMALE FOCUS AWARDS and EDA SPECIAL MENTION AWARDS. We were especially pleased to see our EDA Award nominations show strong representation of women filmmakers in all EDA Awards categories, including non-gender specific categories, and not just those in the FEMALE FOCUS section. AWFJ’s 2022 EDA Awards Nominees – Jennifer Merin reports

The film with the most nominations is Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King, with nods in eleven categories, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, among others. Sarah Polley’s Women Talking has nominations in nine categories, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, among others. First time director Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun is nominated in five categories.

AWFJ EDA Awards @ Whistler Film Fest 2022: Nominees and Jurors – Jennifer Merin reports

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists and Whistler Film Festival are proud to announce the nominees for two AWFJ EDA Awards to be presented at the 2022 festival. This is the tenth consecutive year of the partnership between Whistler Film Festival and AWFJ to honor films directed by women. Whistler Film Festival nominates films for consideration. Juries are comprised of AWFJ members. The winners will be announced at this year’s virtual awards ceremony.

AWFJ EDA Awards 2022 Categories and Agenda – Jennifer Merin reports

With awards season looming on the horizon, The Alliance of Women Film Journalists is delighted to announce our 2022 EDA Awards categories and timeline. This year, the AWFJ EDA Awards categories are the same as they were last year. We consider and recognize films and annual achievements in three awards sections: Best Of, Female Focus and EDA Special Mention Awards. Nominees in each category are determined by AWFJ members who submit nominating ballots. There are currently 95 voting AWFJ members. To qualify for consideration, a film must have been released in virtual theaters or other online platforms during the period from January 1 to December 31, 2022.

The Alliance of Women film Journalists partnered with Tallgrass Film Festival to present EDA Awards for Best Female Directed Films at the festival’s 20th edition, held in Wichita, Kansas from September 28 to October 2, 2022. This is the second consecutive year of the AWFJ partnership with this wonderful “stubbornly independent” film festival.

AWFJ Announces 2021 EDA Award Winners – Jennifer Merin reports

The Power of the Dog sweeps the 2021 AWFJ EDA Awards with Wins in 11 out of 25 Categories. Multiple EDA Awards also go to Belfast and Encanto, and curator Maya Cade claims the Outstanding Achievement Award for founding the Black Cinema Archives. Dame Judi Dench and Ms. Rita Moreno are our Grande Dames, and guess who captured the She Deserves A New Agent Award.
