AWFJ EDA Awards 2023 — and the winners are… – Jennifer Merin reports

In 2023, The Zone of Interest picked up awards for both Best Film and Best International Film, Barbie captured four awards, including Best Director for Greta Gerwig, who also shared Best Original Screenplay Award with Noah Baumbach, Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling and Best Ensemble Cast/Casting Director (tie). Among other awards Killers of the Flower Moon won awards for Best Actress (Lily Gladstone), Best Cinematography (Rodrigo Prieto), Best Editor (Thelma Schoonmaker) and Best Women’s Breakthrough Performance (Lily Gladstone). American Fiction also won multiple awards.

AWFJ Announces the 2023 EDA Awards Nominees – Jennifer Merin reports

Female directed films make a strong showing among nominees for the 2023 AWFJ EDA Awards. Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie lead the nominations with ten each, with Celine Song’s Past Lives garnering nine. In our 17th annual awards season, we present EDA Awards in 25 categories divided into three sections, the BEST OF AWARDS, FEMALE FOCUS AWARDS and EDA SPECIAL MENTION AWARDS. This year, we are especially pleased to see our EDA Award nominations show strong representation of women filmmakers in all EDA Awards categories, including non-gender specific categories, and not just those in the FEMALE FOCUS section. AWFJ honors female creatives in non-gender specific awards categories, but the unique FEMALE FOCUS categories are designated for women only.

AWFJ’s 2022 EDA Awards Nominees – Jennifer Merin reports

The film with the most nominations is Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King, with nods in eleven categories, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, among others. Sarah Polley’s Women Talking has nominations in nine categories, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, among others. First time director Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun is nominated in five categories.
