Those who struggle to find the value of art in tough times will find ample inspiration in the sensitive animated film Lamya’s Poem, where a contemporary Syrian refugee finds solace through a renowned thirteenth-century poet’s words. With 2D animation and backgrounds that resemble watercolors, Lamya’s Poem starts on a fanciful note as it follows a 12-year-old girl for whom the classic verse of Persian poet and Islamic scholar Jalaluddin Rumi becomes a lifeline for surviving the real-life civil war in Aleppo in 2016.
