Don’t get me wrong. I’m all in favor of diversity and inclusiveness, but this lesbian update on Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? doesn’t have a shred of believability. Since her parents died, Abigail – a.k.a. Abby (Kristen Stewart) – has never been into the holiday season. Despite that, her live-in girl-friend, Harper (Mackenzie Davis), impulsively insists that Abby come home with her to celebrate with her family.

THE RENTAL – Review by Lana Wilson-Combs

The Rental is a tightly wrapped movie–88 minutes in all– that eschews predictable and cheesy jump scares for authentic and lingering thrills. Director Dave Franco keeps us guessing as to what will appear out of the fog and scary atmosphere that he effectively creates. The next time you rent a vacation home I bet you’ll check out all the showerheads and potted plants.
