Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay will be inducted Oct. 11 into the esteemed American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Established in 1780, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences is one of the country’s oldest learned societies and independent research centers, bringing together luminaries from academia, the arts, industry, policy, research and science to confront challenges facing the United States and the world.

Returning after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the four-day Cinematography Intensive for Women program took place on the AFI Campus in Los Angeles from July 15 to 18. Designed for aspiring cinematographers, the goal of the program is to provide participants with a toolkit to secure on-set experience in the field and first-hand industry insights demonstrating the path to professional career success.
