ROBERT IRWIN: A DESERT OF PURE FEELING (SXSW2023) – Review by Diane Carson

Robert Irwin: A Desert of Pure Feeling is a conventional documentary of an unconventional artist. The combination works well to reveal the leader of Light and Space art inviting viewers to reconsider perception itself. Writer/director Jennifer Lane’s uniting of the traditional with the untraditional works well for it keeps our focus on the unique qualities of Irwin’s creations rather than on what might have been an experimental filmic style. And Irwin, as much as any contemporary artist, has forged his own unique life and vision that requires no added alteration.
