A classic Hollywood screwball comedy features couples who squabble before they realize they really adore one another. But – here – much of the bickering & bantering falls flat, despite surprise cameos from Ryan Reynolds & Sebastian Stan. There’s simply too little chemistry between Marvel’s hunky Captain America Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, who proved she can pack a punch in No Time to Die and The Gray Man. Even the climactic fight scene atop Atlanta’s rotating Polaris restaurant seems more confusing than compelling.

It’s rare that Disney/Pixar movies incite controversy but Lightyear, a Toy Story origin story, certainly has. The great kerfuffle revolves around a brief, same-gender kiss that was removed and then reinstated when Pixar employees said Disney was censoring “overtly gay affection” as Disney CEO Bob Chapek reacted to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” legislation.

Lightyear: Come with a Buzz and you’ll leave with a smile. Lightyear is a prequel, of sorts, to Toy Story. Think of it as the movie Andy watched that made Buzz Lightyear his hero and inspired hia favorite doll. This is NOT a Toy Story movie. Even though they are animated, the characters in the film aren’t toys, but Space Rangers trying to get back to their planet after a mission mishap that took them to infinity and beyond.

When Wonder Woman (2017) debuted, the origin story of the Amazonian Princess was sensational! It detailed her background, childhood and how she fell in love with a dashing-but-doomed W.W.I pilot. Director Patty Jenkins proved female super-heroes were just as mighty as men. Its sequel, beginning on the island of Themyscira, recalls how fearless, young demi-goddess Diana learned tough lessons about truth and honesty That’s the best part of the entire movie.

Anyone who thinks 2020 has been a fiasco should be grateful to escape to Wonder Woman 1984’s Orwellian year. Despite its “Me Decade” setting, the long-delayed sequel to the character’s 2017 introduction proves strikingly timely. WW84 may take place in the greed-is-good Reagan era, but its central villain — a con-artist TV personality turned megalomaniac — may remind you of a certain contemporary figure. (Any similarities are, we’re sure, hardly coincidental.)

In writer/director Rian Johnson’s comedy thriller, renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, and the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate and the plot twists wildly — and hilariously.
