HACKS Season 3 – Review by Susan Granger

Delightfully original, Hacks is a clever character study about writing and performing comedy, bridging the generation gap with smart show-business satire. For the first two seasons, legendary Boomer diva Deborah Vance (Emmy-winner Jean Smart) has been working in Las Vegas with Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), her combative Gen-Z comedy-writer protégé. Then they go their separate ways. As the third season begins, Deborah’s stand-up TV comeback special is wildly successful, and Ava has secured a prestigious new writing gig in Los Angeles. Problem is: Deborah misses her provocative young collaborator, and Ava cannot resist the creative challenge.

The new comedy Queen Bees shows what happens when Mean Girls grow up. Headed by a cast of screen legends including Ellen Burstyn, Ann-Margret, Jane Curtin, Loretta Devine, James Caan and Christopher Lloyd, Queen Bees may be predictable but there’s no denying the feel-good movie will delight viewers.

Hard to believe but William Shatner turned 90 on March 22nd – and in this mildly amusing rom-com, he’s still as flirty and frisky as ever. Set in Palm Springs, California, the plot revolves around Victor Martin (Shatner), a retired NASA test pilot, who loves to cruise around the desert oasis in his pristine, eye-catching ‘50s Porsche 356 Continental, often accompanied by his best friend Sal (Christopher Lloyd).

SENIOR MOMENT – Review by Carol Cling

True to its title, this genial exercise in audience-pleasing never rises above its modest expectations. Then again, like its golden-age protagonists, it doesn’t have much to prove. Take former Air Force and NASA flyboy Maj. Victor Martin (trusty, blustery William Shatner). His days in the cockpit may be over, but he’s never lost his zest for piloting sports cars and ogling bikini-clad babes.
