WEEK IN WOMEN: Mary Parent honored with PGA’s Selznick Award – Brandy McDonnell reports

Film producer Mary Parent will be honored with the Producers Guild of America’s 2022 David O. Selznick Achievement Award. She will accept the honor at the 33rd Annual Producers Guild Awards March 19 at the Fairmont Century Plaza. Parent is the vice chairman of worldwide production at Legendary Entertainment, where she oversees all aspects of film. She has been actively involved in films amassing more than $20 billion at the global box office. She most recently produced critically acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.

DUNE – Review by Diane Carson

We’ve waited a long time for director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, and, yes, it has been worth the wait in terms of its overpowering visuals and sound design. The technical elements do all but smother the ecological, sociopolitical critique, but it’s there in battles for the rare commodity spice, imperialist incursions affecting the native Fremin culture, and the imperial family skirmishes.
