Cannily realizing that space creature features are a known cinematic quantity these days, writers Oleg Malovichko and Andrei Zolotarev craft a taut and twisty film that frequently zigs when you expect it to zag. Even if they don’t quite nail the landing every time, you have to appreciate the filmmakers’ efforts to flip the script on this familiar subgenre.
