In the sprightly entertaining Enola Holmes 3, Sherlock Holmes’s headstrong younger sister susses out not just how and why her brother vanished but what kind of Victorian-era woman she wants to be. Having made a name for herself as a sleuth in the previous Netflix films, Enola finds herself torn on her wedding day between her love for the young politician Tewkesbury and literally taking on his name as a proper Victorian lady. That she might have to give up detecting as well gives her pause enough to set out late for the ceremony, only to learn from Dr. Watson (Himesh Patel) that Sherlock (Henry Cavill) is missing. Enola Holmes 3 is an energetic whodunit, taking its older, still spirited protagonist through some slightly more mature territory.

Director Fleur Fortune’s somber sci-fi drama The Assessment puts a bleakly dystopian spin on the old saying that “if you wait for the perfect time to have a baby, you’ll never have one.” With unsettling keenness, it explores the psychological stress that a couple (played by Elizabeth Olsen and Himesh Patel) undergoes while being evaluated for their potential as parents in a world where parenthood is strictly regulated by the government.

Director Fleur Fortuné masterfully creates universal scenarios that induce tension, and then she cranks up the volume. The Assessment authentically mimics the anxiety and stress between couples once children enter their world. There is no denying the film is a twisted form of therapy and trauma exercise and a surprising climate change warning. It perfectly captures the pure chaos and sacrifice of parenting. The Assessment is a horrifying power trip.

Bubble & Squeak is the epitome of the term “your mileage may vary.” If you get on Twohy’s chaotic wavelength, you’ll have a lot of fun. But if you prefer your chaos to be minimally controlled it’s more likely you’ll bounce off the film relatively quickly. Which is a shame because the film unquestionably picks up near its conclusion.

As a Baby Boomer I really enjoyed hearing all the Beatles songs that took me back to many places and many unforgettable memories. I hope some of the younger generation will see the movie; and I’m sure they will like the songs that have never stopped showing up across the world for many years. They will also like Himesh Patel as Jack. His singing is so well done when he faces a field of thousands of screaming fans.
