Ladies who raunch are having the times of their lives thanks to the perverted minds of writer/director Adele Lim who takes an “ if you can’t beat ‘em, join ’em” foray into the usually all male unapologetically explicit R rated comedy. But Joy Ride isn’t a one-way trip. Lim brings the venture full circle as the ladies explore not just their sexuality, but stereotypes, friendship and belonging — and learning how to appreciate who they are. Joy Ride is full throttle and full frontal and just when you think it’s an irreverent comedy on cruise control, it turns down the road to redemption with sparks of subtle social commentary and soul.
