ELECTROPHILIA (Fantasia IFF 2024) – Review by Nadine Whitney
The idea that the survivors are inevitably attracted to what almost killed them because electricity is an inexorable force that pulses through everything is where Electrophilia is most interesting. Being pulled into an elemental formlessness which is transcendent because electricity makes up part the human body and connects the pathways to the brain. Employing fascinating visual flourishes, evocative sound design, and a great deal of symbolism, Electrophilia is ultimately more a stormy mood piece than a coherent narrative. Electrophilia is beautiful but the disorienting and disjointed aspects of the film make it difficult to fully connect.
