MEDUSA DELUXE – Review by Alexandra Heller-Nicholas

Medusa Deluxe is what you would get if Ru Paul made a murder mystery Russian Ark – and somehow, it’s even better than that sounds. Homicide is afoot at a British regional hairdressing competition. Shot ostensibly in a single take, the magic of Medusa Deluxe doesn’t lie in the overarching whodunnit so much as the how-did-he-do-it. The “he” in question applies perhaps as much to cinematographer Robbie Ryan as it does writer/director Tom Hardiman. That Medusa Deluxe is Hardiman’s feature debut is astonishing. Medusa Deluxe is one of the year’s most fun movies.
