Monolith is an exciting debut feature by Matt Vesely who shot it in South Australia. It is a fascinating conspiracy-adjacent speculative science fiction piece as well as an indictment of those who profit on the misery and labor of others – in this case ethically bankrupt journalists and the carelessly wealthy. The sound design, visual design, and camerawork all work to hide the relatively low budget to create a clever philosophical genre film.
