Set in 1940, the Netflix series Transatlantic follows activist journalist Varian Fry (Cory Michael Smith), who flew to the port city of Marseilles with a list of endangered European artists and intellectuals to save from Nazi imprisonment. Functioning under the aegis of the Emergency Rescue Committee (ERC), Fry tried to work within France’s strict bureaucracy, obtaining legal visas as quickly as possible without endangering America’s isolationist position of neutrality.

If you’re looking for a action series to stream, try the crime caper “Lupin,” celebrated as #1 in France. Either English-subtitled or dubbed into English, it’s Netflix’s third most successful global launch – after “Bridgerton” and” “The Witcher.” The ‘gentleman thief’ Arsene Lupin is a classic character created in 1905 by French novelist/short-story writer Maurice Leblanc, who serialized his adventures in the popular science magazine Je Sais Tout.

SWEET TOOTH – Review by Susan Granger

If you’re looking for a Netflix series to stream, I highly recommend Sweet Tooth. As you might guess from the improbable title, it’s an unusual, post-apocalyptic tale, one that tugs at your heart. As the narrator (James Brolin) explains, in the decade after the ‘Great Crumble,’ when much of humanity succumbed to the deadly H5G9 virus, human mothers began to give birth to half-animal infants.
