The plot of You, Me & Tuscany is written all over the grape leaves in the family vineyard…culinary school drop out turned house sitter, Anna, travels to Tuscany, squats in the empty villa of a man she’d recently met at a NY bar, pretends to be his fiancé, but falls for his cousin who’s also his brother. A Hallmark movie ensues, complete with a tell it like it is best friend, an overbearing, but loving family, a gorgeous couple, and beautiful scenery. What’s not to like?! There’s a lot of crushing under the Tuscan sun and it isn’t just grapes.

The original Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) introduced writer/director Nia Vardalos and – costing only $5 million – it quickly became the highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time, garnering an original screenplay Oscar nomination. This time, Vardalos, who also directs, becomes mired down in myriad storylines and subplots. Credit cinematographer Barry Peterson for making My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 one of the most enticing Aegean travelogues I’ve seen in years. But – as a feature film – it’s a bit of a disappointing addition to the popular franchise.
