If you saw Franklin Schaffner’s 1973 Steve McQueen/Dustin Hoffman adaptation of Henri Charriere’s best-selling autobiographical books (“Papillon” & “Banco”), you’d feel acute disappointment within the first 10 minutes of this decidedly mediocre version.
