What writer-director Estíbaliz Urresola Solaguren does that is so special with this film is drop us directly into the family’s life to let us live it with them and gradually figure out, as they do, what’s going on. It’s a natural development of character, matched by a naturalist feel in the ambient sounds and light of rural life. She strings together clues and information but lets the full story reveal itself in its own time. The stunningly peaceful setting and languid pace of village life contrast with the growing stress of family members.
