Duplicity, dishonesty and betrayal are essential ingredients in the four-part British series appropriately called The Deceived. The psychological thriller begins in Cambridge as Ophelia Marsh (Emily Reid), a young English major, develops a crush on flirtatious Michael Callahan (Emmett J. Scanlan), a University lecturer who is married to successful novelist Roisin Mulvery (Catherine Walker). In the throes of their torrid affair, Michael suddenly disappears, so Ophelia tracks him to his tiny hometown of Knockdara in Northern Ireland, where she discovers a tragedy has occurred. Apparently, Roisin was killed in a fire that destroyed part of their huge ancestral home.

THE MARTHA MITCHELL EFFECT – Review by Jennifer Merin

This June marks the 50th anniversary of the Watergate break-in and the political scandal that led to President Richard Nixon’s eventual resignation from office on August 8, 1974. It was a turning point in US history, one in which Martha Mitchell played a role, Martha was the whistleblower wife of former US Attorney General John Mitchell, a close Nixon advisor and ally who was jailed for his complicity in the Watergate case. Two films currently in release commemorate the Watergate events and era by taking another look at Martha’s perspective on Watergate, how it happened and its impact on our nation.

WEEK IN WOMEN: Riley Keough to star in DAISY JONES & THE SIX – Brandy McDonnell reports

Riley Keough is set to play the title role in the upcoming Amazon original series Daisy Jones & The Six, with director Niki Caro also on board for the show, which is based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Caro will direct multiple episodes, including the initial installment, and will work as executive producer alongside Reese Witherspoon.
