Winner, is a fascinating and entertaining look at Middle Eastern language savant Reality Winner’s (Emilia Jones) unlikely trajectory from Texas schoolgirl to imprisoned veteran accused of espionage during the Trump reign. Ultimately, the film is a thought-provoking exploration of the consequences of challenging authority. It reminds us that while fighting for justice is important, it’s crucial to pick our battles wisely and consider the potential impact on our lives. Reality did the time, and now we can relive the crime by watching a former president wiggle around our country’s laws.

I really enjoy supporting women writers/directors, which is perhaps why I was a bit disappointed by Susanna Fogel’s buddy-comedy caper which, unfortunately, wastes the prodigious talent of SNL’s Kate McKinnon. In the midst of a shootout at an open air market in Vilnius, Lithuania, halfway across the world in Los Angeles, Audrey (Mila Kunis) is celebrating her 30th birthday, having just been dumped – via text – by one of the gunmen, Drew (Justin Theroux). He’s a C.I.A. agent and he doesn’t want to place Audrey in danger.
