WEEK IN WOMEN: Jennifer Lee’s FROZEN 2 tops $1 billion box office – Brandy McDonnell reports

Frozen II is taking Disney “Into the Unknown” as it continues to set records at the box office.
The animated adventure, co-directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, is the sixth Disney movie in 2019 to hit $1 billion globally, strengthening the Mouse House’s rule over the box office.

WEEK IN WOMEN: Golden Globes Again Snubs Women – Brandy McDonnell reports

Despite the record number of hit films directed by women, including a number earning widespread critical acclaim, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has affirmed its stance as a boys’ club. All the recently unveiled nominees in the Best Director – Motion Picture category are men. Worse, there are no films directed by women contending for Best Motion Picture – Drama or for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. And, there are no women nominated in Best Screenplay – Motion Picture.

WEEK IN WOMEN: Filmmaker Cheryl Eagan-Donovan is Oxfordian of the Year – Brandy McDonnell reports

Filmmaker Cheryl Eagan-Donovan has been named Oxfordian of the Year for 2019 by the Shakespeare Oxford Fellowship for her documentary film Nothing Is Truer than Truth. The documentary is about Shakespeare’s identity and the life of Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, who traveled in 1575-76 to Venice and throughout Italy, where he collected the experiences that are reflected in the works of Shakespeare.
