A lackluster follow-up to the engaging action-packed original, The Old Guard 2 disappoints with a murky, morose narrative that fails to recapture any energy shown in the first superhero fantasy adventure. This film is blood-soaked and brutally violent, with all sorts of wicked implements like swords and battle axes wielded. But this time, the combat set pieces are staged with little finesse. While dialogue is mostly by the book, as before, here there is more introspection, but that doesn’t mean the story is lucid.
