In “Frozen River,” written and directed by Courtney Hunt, two very different women (Melissa Leo as Ray Eddy and Misty Upham as Lila) begin their relationship as adversaries, but in battling mutual adversities learn they will fare much better if they work together. This superb film about women and made by women won the 2008 Sundance Festival’s Grand Jury Award, as well as several other festival awards, and is being released theatrically by Sony Pictures Classics.
