dont knock twice posterFrom the director of the award-winning UK feature film ‘The Machine‘, IFC Midnight is proud to announce the theatrical, VOD and HD Digital release of DON’T KNOCK TWICE on February 3, 2017.

“Knock once to wake her from her bed, twice to raise her from the dead…” So goes a disturbing urban legend involving an abandoned house supposedly inhabited by a vengeful, child-stealing witch. When troubled teen Chloe (Lucy Boynton) raps at the door one night, she has no idea the horror she’s about to unleash. Fleeing to the country home of her estranged mother (Katee Sackhoff)-a recovering addict who’s turned her life around to become a famous artist-Chloe must learn to trust the woman who gave her up years ago in order to stop the bloodthirsty, shape-shifting demon stalking them.

The cast is lead by two female protagonists and 1 female villain. Not too shabby considering the normal alternatives. With solid performances from all three ladies, Don’t Knock Twice is ripe with enough jump scares and cringe worthy visuals to add up to an engrossing watch.

dont knock twice still

All monsters aside, it’s a realistic mother-daughter reconnect story. Nothing is shiny or sugar coated. Katee Sackhoff is underdone as an artist mom and Lucy Boynton is a typical rebellious, too much eye makeup, teen. It’s a story of trust and relationship building under extreme circumstances. In this case, the duo go from flight to fight as a team. It’s nice to see two women working together and not tearing each other down… or worse, with just one who’s being vacuous and half naked. I applaud screenwriters Mark Huckerby and Nick Ostler for making these grown up choices.

But, we do have to discuss the final 15 minutes of the  film. As to not give away any  specific spoilers, I’ll simply say that the genre sort of explodes. If you’re a fan of The Grudge, Hansel & Gretel, and Ransom, then Don’t Knock Twice has been tailor made just for you.

You can watch the film’s trailer below and catch it Friday, February 3rd in theaters and on VOD.
