DEADSIGHT

World Premiere at Blood In The Snow Canadian Film Festival 2018

In DEADSIGHT, Mara Madigan (Collins) is a pregnant police officer about to go on maternity leave. But on her last day on the job, she wakes up to a world ravaged by a nightmarish and bloody plague of the living dead. Amidst the chaos and violence, she finds Ben Neilson (Seybold), a man who is virtually blind, helpless, and has a mystery shrouding his past. Somehow these two must put their heads together and find a way to safety to escape this living hell.

If you thought 28 Days was terrifying, Deadsight is next level, insanity. Imagine waking up realizing you’re alone in a zombie outbreak, oh and you’re just discovering you’re blind. What?! Ben and Mara are thrown together in an impossible scenario. Both characters have challenges so they make a brilliant foil for one another. The dead have the speed we saw in 28 Days but also a higher intellect in their animalistic approach of the still human variety of people. The handheld camera style is perfect for allowing the audience to be down on the ground with Ben and Mara. Mara is very pregnant. As a mother of two, I know what physical limitations come with carrying a child. Her fight scenes are exceptionally accurate. Both our leads are fantastic. These super natural performances are ones to be applauded. My one nitpicky criticism would be Ben’s miraculous ability to kill things while seeing little to nothing. He’s a hell of a shot considering. The film is equally ominous between the nighttime and the daytime setting. It doesn’t rely on tropes as much as it could have and that is incredibly refreshing. Bravo to writers (including actress Liv Collins) for the slow burn of information and genuine discomfort. DEADSIGHT captures an inherent fear of being alone, abandonment, and the otherworldly. It’s a film you will root for.

RLJE Films will release DEADSIGHT on July 2, 2019 on DVD, On Demand and Digital HD.  Directed by Jesse Thomas Cook (Monster Brawl) and written by Liv Collins (Polished) and Kevin Revie (To Hell with Harvey), the film stars CollinsAdam Seybold (Let Her Out) and Ry Barrett (The Demolisher).
