Kate Winslet appears in the 2011 HBO limited series “Mildred Pierce.”

Oscar winner Kate Winslet will star in and executive produce the limited series “Mare of Easttown” for HBO, Variety reports.

Winslet will play a small-town Pennsylvania detective whose life crumbles around her as she investigates a local murder.

Gavin O’Connor will also executive produce and direct all episodes. Brad Ingelsby created the show, and he will write all the episodes in addition to serving as executive producer and showrunner.

The series is a co-production between HBO and wiip, the CAA-backed independent studio headed by Paul Lee, according to Variety. Lee and Mark Roybal will executive produce for wiip, while Gordon Gray will executive produce via Mayhem Pictures.

“Mare of Easttown” will be Winslet’s first television role since appearing in 2011 the five-part HBO miniseries “Mildred Pierce,” for which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie.

Primarily known for her film work, Winslet has been nominated for seven Academy Awards throughout, including for “Sense and Sensibility,” “Titanic,” “Iris,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Little Children,” and, most recently, “Steve Jobs.” She won the Oscar for best actress in 2008 for “The Reader.”
