Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Camila Cabello will make her feature acting debut in a new movie version of the beloved fairy tale “Cinderella.”

For the project, the “Havana” hitmaker is teaming with Kay Cannon, a three-time Emmy-nominated producer for “30 Rock” who penned the “Pitch Perfect” movies before making her directorial debut with last year’s femme-centric teen comedy “Blockers.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cabello will not only star in the project, set up at Sony’s Columbia label, but also will be integrally involved in the music for the film. Sony is putting the project on the fast track.

The idea for the reimagining of Cinderella grew from an original idea from late-night talk show host and Tony Award winner James Corden, who is producing the feature project with Leo Pearlman, his partner at Fulwell 73. The production banner that has found success with documentaries such as the BAFTA-nominated “Bros: After the Screaming Stops,” “The Class of ’92” and “Karaoke.”

The story is billed as a modern adaptation of the traditional tale of the orphaned girl with a wicked stepmother, with a musical flair. That seems an obvious twist on the familiar formula, considering that Cabello’s “Havana” became Spotify’s most-streamed song ever by a solo female artist with a billion streams, while the Cuban-born performer’s album “Camila” also broke records when it debuted at No. 1 on 110 iTunes charts around the world. “Never Be the Same,” another single off the album, was also a top 10 hit.
