Director Olivia Wilde, right, works with Beanie Feldstein on “Booksmart.”

Fans of the critically comedy “Booksmart” will be getting a yuletide gift from director Olivia Wilde and co-writer Katie Silberman.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures has achieved victory over another five bids from rival Hollywood studios to snag an untitled holiday comedy pitch based on an original idea from the “Booksmart” pair.

Wilde is attached to helm and Silberman will pen the screenplay.

“Booksmart,” Wilde’s feature directorial debut, follows best friends and academic overachievers Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein), who realize they’ve missed out on pretty much all the fun during high school. So, on the eve of graduation, they decide to make up for lost time with one wild adventure.

Silberman shares writing credits on the hilarious coming-of-age story with Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins and Susanna Fogel. Silberman’s other credits include “Set It Up,” “Isn’t It Romantic” and the upcoming “Most Dangerous Game.”

Wilde and Silberman will also produce the Universal holiday tale. Wilde is currently in production on Clint Eastwood’s “The Ballad of Richard Jewell.”

Sara Scott, Universal’s senior vice president for production and Lexi Barta, director of development, will oversee development of the project for the studio.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is releasing “Booksmart,” which also stars Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis, on digital Aug. 20 and Blu-ray and DVD Sept. 3.
