Auli’i Cravalho appears in the NBC series “Rise.”

Before Disney films its live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid,” ABC will air a live musical production starring “Moana” actress Auli’i Cravalho as the iconic Princess Ariel.

The production, which will air on Nov. 5, will co-star Queen Latifah as Ursula and Shaggy as Sebastian, according to the Associated Press.

The broadcast will include music from the original two-time Oscar-winning animated film as well as the Tony Award-winning Broadway show.

The animated film, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, is credited for ushering in a renaissance for Disney’s animation studio. It followed the mermaid Princess Ariel as she fell in love with a human prince and searched for ways to join him on land. Alan Menken earned an Academy Award for writing the film’s original music, including the songs “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World” and the Oscar-winning ballad “Kiss the Girl.” The late Howard Ashman wrote the lyrics to the film’s iconic songs.

The stage musical based on the animated film debuted on Broadway in 2007.

As previously reported, Disney plans to continue its current highly lucrative habit of remaking its animated hits with a new feature starring Halle Bailey as Ariel. Along with starring in the sitcom “Grown-ish,” Bailey is half of the musical sister duo Chloe x Halle.

Directed by Rob Marshall, the live-action remake also is set to star Awkwafina (“Crazy Rich Asians,” “The Farewell”) as Scuttle and Jacob Tremblay (“Room,” “Good Boys”) as Flounder. Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem and Harry Styles have been rumored to be involved.

In addition to her second outing as a Disney Princess in the ABC production of “The Little Mermaid,” Cravalho (NBC’s high school drama series “Rise”) is set for her first non-animated movie. As previously reported, she has been cast in the lead for Netflix’s feature drama “Sorta Like A Rock Star,” directed by Brett Haley (“Hearts Beat Loud”).
